22 Aug 1952 - 22 Jul 2025 in Huntington Beach, California

This memorial will be updated after an obituary has been published.  The following is from Kathy's Caringbridge page.

Our sweet Kathy passed away peacefully on Tuesday with Bobby by her side.

It’s hard to put into words what she meant to us and the kind of woman she was. She was a mother, a Grammy, a teacher, a friend. She was above all an adventurer at heart - always out hiking, kayaking, biking, and soaking up every bit of nature or peace she could find. The woods, the mountains, the water… that was her happy place. “The world to ourselves” as she would say on various hikes and experiences when she found herself in just the right spot with no one but us…

Nearly two years ago, Kathy was diagnosed with glioblastoma, that terribly aggressive and unrelenting cancer. She faced it the way she faced everything: with determination, grace, and endless hope. She tried every treatment there was to try, including clinical trials, not just in the fight for her own life, but with the hope that what she learned and gave might help others down the road.

She stayed true to herself throughout it all, full of warmth and light.

We’re heartbroken, but also deeply grateful - for her life, for her love, and for the memories we get to carry with us. One of the greatest gifts to me personally were the trips we shared, just the two of us. From our snowy January getaway to Yosemite for Chef’s Holiday, to the once-in-a-lifetime trip she invited me on to Colombia, where I got to see the farms she worked on as a young girl. It was a dream of hers to return, and I’ll always treasure that time together.

If you’d like to honor Kathy, go outside today. See the sights, touch a tree, listen to the birds, yodel little old lady whooo, and don’t forget after all that - to put your feet up. She’d love that.

She’s onto her next hike now - just in another life. Probably telling whoever she is alongside now that there is just “one more hill!”.

Thank you to everyone who supported her and all of us along the way. It meant more than we can say.

With love,

The Fishers (posted by Lauren)

What a wonderful tribute to Kathy! At dinner tonight Daniel and I were going back in time over all of the trips we have done with Kathy, Steven and Peter over the many years. The first one was when the boys were about 5 or 6 years old (" the pit toilet smells like poo" per Peter) and we kept on discovering new places until they were teenagers. Gray Eagle Lodge was our final best place to keep coming back to. Wonderful memories I will cherish! After the boys grew up Kathy and I continued our travels together. Hiking trips in Europe and the US. Kathy never hesitated to meet a stranger and ask them a question that might even surprise them (or me). She sent me postcards over the years from every place she travelled and I did the same. I will miss her so much!
