Edwin J. Friesen, 74, died April 23, 1984, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, following a long illness. Born Jan. 6, 1910, at Henderson. Neb., he married Thelma Adrian.

A Wichita resident since 1945, he was a retired principal of West High School and Wilbur Junior High School. He was principal of Circle High School, Towanda, for one year following his retirement in 1975 from the Wichita School System.

He had been principal at Buhler Grade School from 1936-41 and had served on the board of trustees at Ottawa University.

He was elected to the Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame in 1982. He was chairman of the legislative committee of the Kansas Retired Teachers Association and did significant work lobbying following his retirement.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Wichita, and was chairman of the division of Christian Education and a past chairman of the diaconate of the church. He was a member and a past board member of Wichita Rotary Club. (Hutchinson News, April 25, 1984)

Dr Friesen's father, Jacob J Friesen, was born in Margenau, Molotschna Colony, Russia in 1870 and emigrated to the United States in 1874.
