Stella May Smith Hamilton

Stella May Smith was born on May 6, 1912 in Lawton, Oklahoma, the only child of Lee and Hattie (née Wilson) Smith.   She attended Lawton public schools where she showed a strong interest in mathematics.  In 1938 she received her Master's degree in mathematics from the University of Oklahoma in Norman. Stella first taught mathematics at Pratt Junior College and later at Wichita High School West.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John Alfred Hamilton.  She is survived by her daughter Jacquelyn (James) Ash and one grandchild, John Ash.
